Quick Bio

Fonda Doris Magill, daughter of Raymond John Magill and Fonda Drusilla McCorkle, was born either October 26 or 27 (depending on the source), 1918 in Falls City, Richardson County, Nebraska. She married Elmer Raymond Beucus. They had three children named Barbara "Bobbie" Joyce Beucus, my grandma Deborah "Debbie" Beucus, and Brian Ned Beucus. Debbie married Gregory "Greg" Gould on January 10, 1971 in Riverside, California. Fonda died September 17, 2015 in San Diego, California. She is buried with her husband in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.

Backstory of the Portrait

Fonda called Greg in the summer of 2015 asking him to paint her portrait. He had just finished a drawing class, so he decided to draw her portrait instead. At the time, Fonda lived at La Vida Real in Rancho San Diego and she did not have a close relationship with her son-in-law. Greg visited her to take pictures as a reference for the portrait. He worked on it for three weeks. Half of her face is in shadow as a representation of her dual personality. Fonda loved to party and play cards. She could be warm and friendly, but she could also be judgmental and mean. When Greg showed her the drawing, she scrutinized it and then said, "Boy, you didn't miss a wrinkle did you." That's how he knew she liked it. Fonda had an artistic ability herself, and she seemed to appreciate the caring work Grandpa Greg put into the portrait. It's one of grandpa's art pieces that he is most proud of. Fonda died less than three weeks later. Now the portrait hangs on the wall in Greg and Debbie's home in Jamul, California.
