Interviewing Aunt Bobbie
Who were your heroes as a child?
Bobbie liked the Lone Ranger. She even had cowboy boots and toy guns that she loved to play with. Bobbie enjoyed watching Doris Day sing on the television. She was beautiful and talented. Later on, she liked Superman, Mighty Mouse, and John Wayne.
What were your favorite school subjects?
Bobbie enjoyed P.E. the most. She liked playing basketball, golf, and volleyball.
Describe your first job
Her first job was working at the Missouri State Fair serving food like chicken and fries.
What was your favorite job and why?
Air Traffic Control was Bobbie's all-time favorite job. She loved being at the airport, watching planes take-off, and seeing all the different aircraft. Another job that Bobbie found interesting was working as an army medic. She was assigned to the emergency room stitching people up. She was also a floater working at all sorts of different clinics doing divergent tasks from OBGYN to giving shots.
How did your parents meet?
Fonda and Raymond met at a Fort dance outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. Fonda was working as a hotel clerk at the time, and went to the dance with her friend.
What do you admire about your parents?
Bobbie admires Fonda's moxie and strength. She would do anything and go anywhere. Fonda was never afraid to speak her mind. Bobbie admires how Elmer worked in the Civilian Conservation Core (CCC), and then officer school in the military. He got his GED later in life.
What's your favorite holiday food?
She loves the Moroccan Christmas dinner, a family tradition honoring the time spent in Morocco during Elmer's Air Force service. Bobbie loves everything from the harira soup to the chicken couscous to the lamb kebabs.
Tell me about some of your favorite songs, movies, books, etc.
Bobbie loves the American big bands music from the 30's and 40's, Earth Wind & Fire, Santana, the Doobie Brothers, and Doris Day.
Tell me about some of the places where you've been.
Bobbie has been many places that she loved. In Missouri, she enjoyed going to the fair. In Germany, she had fun learning about the differences between poisonous and edible mushrooms in the Black Forest. In Maryland, Bobbie had a great time crabbing with friends.
