The Meaning of the Byerly Surname

There are several possible origin for the Byerly surname including:

  1. an English habitational name from Bierley in Whitwell (Isle of Wight)
  2. an English habitational name from Birley in Ecclesfield (Yorkshire) or Derbyshire
  3. an Americanized form of German Beierle from Beier, a German/Danish/Jewish (Ashkenazic) variant of Bayer, which is a habitational name for someone from Bavaria (German Bayern)
I traced the Byerlys from Ohio back to Germany in the early 1800s.
