The Baileys
Thomas Lee Bailey, son of William Bailey and Winifred Lee, was born in 1797 in Rogersville, Hawkins County, Tennessee. In 1850, Thomas age 33 [or 35, hard to tell with the bad handwriting, but both ages are inaccurate based on his tombstone] lived in Shelby, Shelby County, Alabama with his wife Elizabeth age 48 as well as their children James Lee Bailey age 19, Tennessee Terissa Bailey age 16, Thomas Newton Bailey age 14, Elizabeth Cross Bailey age 13, Uriah Jordan Bailey age 12, and Bennett Houston Bailey age 7. Thomas Lee Bailey worked as a farmer. He died around the age of 67 in Shelby County, Alabama in 1865. Thomas Lee Bailey is buried in Croft Acton Cemetery in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.
The Actons
William M. Acton, son of John James Acton and Jennie Roberts, was born on 5 April 1805. In 1850, William age 45 lived with his wife Elizabeth age 44 as well as their children Mary Elizabeth Acton age 19, John Vincent Acton age 17, Zephaniah William Henry Acton age 15, Zilpha Acton age 13, James Gaines Acton age 12, and Rachel Edna Acton age 9 in Shelby, Shelby County, Alabama. In 1880, William age 75 and his wife Elizabeth age 74 lived in Bold Springs, Shelby County, Alabama with their daughter Mary age 45 and servant Ham Parsons age 18. William M. Acton worked as a farmer. He died at age 79 on 12 March 1885. William M. Acton is buried in Acton Memorial Cemetery in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.
The Jones Family
Asa Jones, son of Nathan Jones and Courtney Bell, and his wife Martha Patsey Butler moved from Georgia to Alabama. In 1850, Asa age 63 and Martha age 59 lived in Shelby, Shelby County, Arkansas with their children John Christopher Jones age 24, Martha Jones age 17, and Frances Jones age 13. Asa Jones worked as a farmer. He died at about the age of 96 in Shelby County, Alabama in August of 1884.
The Next Generations
William H. Bailey, son of Thomas Lee Bailey and Elizabeth Hale, married Susan Jane Acton, daughter of William M. Acton and Elizabeth Lee Acton, on 12 February 1844 in Shelby County, Alabama. In 1850, William age 30 and his wife Susan age 22 lived in Shelby, Shelby County, Alabama with their children Sarah Elizabeth Bailey age 5 and Joseph Calvin Bailey age 2. After her first husband William H. Bailey died in 1862, Susan Jane (Acton) Bailey remarried to William's younger brother Thomas Newton Bailey on 10 December 1865 in Shelby County, Alabama. Susan Jane (Acton) Bailey died at age 76 on 9 July 1905. She is buried in Croft Acton Cemetery in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.
Nathan Olious Jones, son of Asa Jones and Martha Patsey Butler, married Winifred Bailey on 31 March 1840 in Shelby County, Alabama. In 1850, Nathan age 36 and Winifred age 30 lived in Shelby, Shelby County, Alabama with their children Louanna Jones age 9, Charlotte Josephine Jones age 7, Courtney Angeline Jones age 5, Mary Louise Jones age 3, and Martha Frances Jones age 2. Nathan and his family later moved to Jefferson County, Alabama. He worked as a farmer. Nathan Olious Jones died at age 57 in Jefferson County, Alabama on 7 January 1872. He is buried in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama.
Joseph Calvin Bailey, son of William H. Bailey and Susan Jane Acton, married Courtney Angeline Jones, daughter of Nathan Olious Jones and Winifred Bailey, in Shelby County, Alabama on 7 December 1865. Joseph, his wife Courtney, and their family later moved from Alabama to Arkansas.
