Honoring the Dead This November
Emma Lena Brockmeier
Emma Lena Brockmeier, possible daughter of John Christian Brockmeier and Julia Harstick, was born September 30, 1888 in St. Louis, Missouri. Emma married William Dexter Gould on October 16, 1912 in Mound City, Holt County, Missouri. They had several children including my great grandpa Maurice Lee Gould (born April 13, 1918) and his brother Harold Glen Gould (born August 4, 1916). She also had a son from a previous relationship named Russell Lawrence Neiderhouse, who was born April 27, 1904. In 1920, William D Gould age 39 and Emma L Gould age 31 lived in Forest City, Missouri with their children Harrold G Gould age 3, Morris L Gould age 1, Helen Gould age 12, Howard Gould age 8, and stepson Russell Neiderhouse age 14. In the 1930 U.S. Census, Emma age 41 and her husband William Gould age 49 lived in Oregon, Missouri with their son Harold Gould age 13, their son Maurice Gould age 12, and William's stepson Russell Neiderhouse age 23.
In 1940, William age 59 and Emma age 51 still lived in Oregon, Holt County, Missouri. Emma died on November 28, 1959 in Forest City, Holt County, Missouri. She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Oregon, Holt County, Missouri. There is some confusion when researching this ancestor as some people seem to think that Neiderhouse is her maiden name with Gottlieb Neiderhause and Mary Lena Scheibe as her parents. I think these might actually be her in-laws, based on her son's last name. In the 1910 U.S. Census, an Emma Neiderhouse age 33 lived in Forest, Holt County, Missouri with Gotlieb Neiderhouse age 62, his wife Millie Neiderhouse age 58, his son William Neiderhouse age 36, and his grandchild Russell Neiderhouse age 6. This does not seem to be the right age for someone supposed to have been born in 1888. There is also another 1910 Census record in which an Emma Gould age 26 lives with her husband William D Gould age 29 with their daughter Helen Gould age 3, which to me seems to be the more plausible age but they weren't married until 1912, Genealogy can be tricky especially when you run into people with similar names as there was also another couple around the same time and place named Emma S Brockmeier and William Matthew Gould.
