The Gould Surname
The Living Goulds
My maternal grandpa Gregory "Greg" Gould, son of Maurice Lee Gould and Doris Maxine Perry, is the eldest living Gould. He was born July 25, 1947 in Los Angeles, California. Greg married Deborah "Debi" Beucus on January 10, 1971 in Riverside, California. They had two daughters, my mom Summer Gould and Melissa Gould. Summer was born June 21, 1975 in San Diego, California. Melissa was born July 11, 1979 in San Diego, California.
The Gould Surname
Gould is an English variant of Gold which has several possible origins
- Jewish Ashkenazic artificial name from German Gold or Yiddish gold
- shortened form of any compound artificial name that starts with Gold
- from Middle English go(u)ld or old English and old high German gold, a metonymic occupational name for someone who works with gold like a jeweler or gilder
- nickname for someone who either had many gold possessions or bright yellow hair
- from Old English personal name Golda or Golde
In my research on Ancestry and FamilySearch, the Gould line lived in Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. I also traced them back to Nova Scotia, Canada in the late 1700s and England in the 1600s. I didn't find much of a spelling variation of Gould besides Gold.
