Honoring the Dead This April

 James H. Surratt Jr. 

    James H. Surratt Jr., son of James H. Surratt and Juanita A. (Allinder) Surratt was born on 11 May 1923. He had several siblings including Willie Mae Surratt, Edna Olline Surratt, Dora Lee Surratt, and Velma Lucille Surratt. James H. Surratt married my great grandma Wanda Dean Trantham on 11 May 1949 in Searcy, White County, Arkansas. In 1950, James H Surratt age 26 lived in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas with his wife Wanda D Surratt age 18 and his brother-in-law Charles E Trantham age 16. James worked as a night manager at a cafe, Wanda was a waitress at a cafe, and Charles worked as a laborer at a nursery. James and Wanda had two children before separating, my grandpa Robert "Bob" Joseph Surratt and Carolyn Surratt. James H. Surratt Jr. later had another son, James "Jimmy" Harden Surratt III, with Emma Lola (Fuchs) Surratt. James H. Surratt Jr. died on 1 April 2001. He is buried in Carter Cemetery in Russell, White County, Arkansas.

William Mark Dorn 

    William "Bill" Mark Dorn, son of Lewis Thomas Dorn and Violet Camela Moore, was born 1 January 1925 in Tekamah, Burt County, Nebraska. In 1940, William age 15 lived with his parents Lewis age 47 and Violet age 43 in Tekamah, Burt County, Nebraska along with his siblings Margaret age 24, Lewis age 21, Jean age 20, George age 17, Violet age 11, Virginia age 9, Elaine age 8, and John age 5. He married Wanda Dean (Trantham) Surratt, and they had several children including Teresa Dorn, Dian Dorn, Renee Dorn, and Mark Dorn. William Mark Dorn served as an Machinist's Mate Chief (MMC) in the United States Navy. He died on 1 April 1994. He is buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
