Remembering the Dead This May

 Grayson Walter Meese 

    Grayson Walter Meese, son of Volney Pershing Meese and Laura Pearl Byerly, was born on 14 June 1918 in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He had a couple siblings named Mildred Mable Meese and Robert Henry Meese. In 1920, Grayson age 1 lived in Stark County, Ohio with his parents Volney age 33 and Laura age 30 as well as his siblings Mildred age 9 and Robert age 3. Grayson age 11 lived in San Diego, California in 1930 with his parents Volney age 44 and Laura age 41 as well as his sister Mildred age 19 and brother Robert age 13. In 1940, Grayson Walter Meese age 21 lived with his father Volney age 54 and his stepmother Nellie May (Julian) Meese age 57 in San Diego, California. Grayson married Helen Elizabeth Shaw on 2 April 1949 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. Grayson age 31 and Helen age 33 lived in Downey, Los Angeles County, California in 1950. They had two children including my grandmother Sandra Karen Meese and Gary Allen Meese. Grayson worked as a dairy operator, a mixer at an ice cream factory, and as a truck driver. He died on 12 May 2010 in San Diego County, California.

Vena Martha Warner 

    Vena Martha Warner, daughter of Nelson Warner and Phoebe Ann Lucas, was born in March of 1886 in Pennsylvania. In 1900, Vena age 14 lived in Columbia, Bradford County, Pennsylvania with her parents Nelson age 61 and Phoebe Ann age 59 as well as her brother Curt age 23. Vena married Homer Ripley Shaw in Elmira, Chemung County, New York on 1 March 1905. Vena M Shaw age 24 lived with her husband Homer R Shaw age 26 in Ceres, McKean County, Pennsylvania as well as with her children Homer E Shaw age 4, Blanche E Shaw age 2, and Nellie E Shaw 10 months old. In 1920, Vena age 33 and Homer R age 36 still lived in McKean County, Pennsylvania with their children Homer Earl age 14, Blanche Edna age 12, Nellie Ellen age 10, F Lewis age 9, Nelson Warner age 8, Arne W (which I believe is Verne Wayne) age 6, and Helen Elizabeth age 3. Vena M Shaw age 44 and her husband Homer R Shaw age 46 lived in Franklinville, Cattaraugus County, New York in 1930 with their children Nelson W Shaw age 18, Vern W Shaw age 17, and Helen E Shaw age 13. In 1940, Vena age 54 and Homer age 56 still lived in Franklinville, Cattaraugus County, New York with their son Nelson age 28. Vena M Shaw died on 16 May 1948 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York.
