Honoring the Dead This August
William Dexter Gould
William Dexter Gould, son of Ebenezer Dexter Gould Jr and Sarah Isabelle Crockett, was born in Forest City, Holt County, Missouri on 22 December 1880. He had several siblings including Edward Delaware Gould, John Jay Gould, Homer Gould, and Ida Belle Gould. In 1900, William Dexter Gould age 20 lived in Hickory, Holt County, Missouri with his parents Ebenezer Dexter Gould age 43 and Sarah Isabelle Gould age 40 as well as his siblings John Jay Gould age 14 and Ida Belle Gould age 9. Ebenezer's niece Bertha Osborne age 6 also lived with the family in 1900. William Dexter Gould married Emma Lena Neiderhouse on 16 October 1912 in Holt County, Missouri.
Emma had a son named Russell Lawrence Neiderhouse from a previous marriage. William and Emma had a couple children together including Harold Glen Gould, Maurice Lee Gould, Howard Gould, and Helen Gould. In 1920, William age 39 and Emma age 31 lived in Forest City, Holt County, Missouri with Russell age 14, Helen age 12, Howard age 8, Harold age 3, and Maurice age 1. William worked as a carpenter, contractor, and painter. William Dexter Gould died on 26 August 1945 in Oregon, Holt County, Missouri. He is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Oregon, Holt County, Missouri. We remember William Dexter Gould this August as a valued son, brother, husband, and father. A handyman from Missouri who passed down his skills to my great grandfather Maurice Lee Gould.
Laura Pearl Byerly
Laura Pearl Byerly, daughter of Uriah Henry Byerly and Adaline Mary Texter, was born on 16 July 1889 in Stark County, Ohio. She had several siblings including Elta Salome Byerly, Bessie M. Byerly, Homer Lester Byerly, Florence L. Byerly. In 1900, Laura age 11 lived in Canton, Stark County, Ohio with her parents Uriah age 41 and Adaline age 45 as well as her siblings Elta age 18, Bessie age 15, and Florence age 9. Laura Pearl Byerly married Volney Pershing Meese on 30 June 1909 in Stark County, Ohio. They had a few children including Mildred Mable Meese, Robert Henry Meese, and Grayson Walter Meese. In 1920, Laura age 30 and Volney age 33 lived in Plain, Stark County, Ohio with their children Mildred age 9, Robert age 3, and Grayson age 1. Unfortunately, Laura Pearl Meese died young around age 44 in San Diego County, California on 27 August 1933. She was cremated and her ashes buried in Cypress View Mausoleum and Crematory in San Diego, California. This August we remember Laura Pearl (Byerly) Meese as a beloved daughter, sister, wife, and mother. An Ohio woman who followed her heart to California.
